I  knew this was coming. First, they mess about with ads. Then, they cut back the ad blocker from three days to one.

Now? FanFiction.net has put interstitial ad on their page, like the one you get once a day when you come to lj. The difference? THERE IS NO WAY TO X IT OUT. You have to 1. Listen to the video and 2. Do one of the quizzes listed. The page states that ff.net will get $1.40 for every quiz. If you don't do this, you can't get to the ff.net pages. They are LOCKED.

I guess this is one of the neat new things that they were crowing about on the home page. /sarcasm

To say I am hopping mad is an understatement. This is beyond annoying. I am contemplating just leaving my stuff there and using Tikatu's Corner and Fan Nation exclusively (I'd update my stuff at Lunaescence, too.)

There has got to be a better way to generate income. How about reinstating the paid subscriber option? If it meant going without ads of any kind - and it was reasonable - I'd be willing to plunk for it. I did before. At this point, I'm more willing to donate to the other two sites and keep them running. They, at least, are pretty much ad-free.

Locking up the intellectual property of thousands of people? NOT COOL to the nth degree. What can we do to convince them of this?

I know it's a pain in the butt, but when you get the survey that locks the content up, it adds something to the first part of the URL. If you delete that part of it and refresh the page with just the original URL, it allows me to read. Hope that helps :)

I just use the ad blocker I downloaded on firefox. I haven't seen an ad in years and I've never had to click anything for that to happen :3

That is insane.

But yeah, if an adblocker add-on will block it, use it. It makes browsing the web so much less painful (and faster).

Thanks for the tip! I'll try to remember that. Oddly enough, this last time I went there, I got in no problem. But it certainly was a PITA to find that this morning.

Not joking, Ellie. It didn't pop up when I went back later... either just getting it deactivates it or they got such an earful that they killed it themselves. The proof will be tomorrow, I think, if it pops up again.

Thanks, Ali. I don't use Firefox much; it just doesn't have all my bookmarks, and importing them is a pain (it gives me one more level of folders to search through). I'll keep it in mind, though, if the ad shows up again. I have an ad blocker on my Firefox; just have to learn how to use it.

Very insane of them. There are better ways to generate revenue that won't alienate their user base. I'll keep the ad-blocker in mind; I wish there was one for IE.

I mostly only use Firefox for FF.NET and youtube (I have this add on that hides all the comments on videos so I don't have to see all the mean and stupidness :P)
and my main browser from everything else :D
