Project in progress

I'll put most of this under lj-cut to spare my f-list, but here are some pictures of the "brick walkway" project. When Boy #1 came home he was not happy that Dad had started demolition before he could help, so he, his brother, and a friend finished demolishing the lower walkway.

Here's the lower walkway as it looked before demolition began. As you can see, it's pretty ugly, and - thanks to the former owner's wire coat hangers - all one piece pretty much. You can see where I got the idea that there might be bricks under the cement; the cement had been broken up by the car as it pulls into the drive.

This is the upper section of the walkway, after Hubby got through pulling the cement up. The bricks are showing, and just need a good sweeping and a rinse down to be really visible.

The Girl did a bit of sweeping and you can see how cool and old the bricks look. Many of them say "Southern" on them; I think that was the manufacturer. Only a few are actually cracked.

Here's a picture of the entire walkway. There's still some cleaning up to do (one piece of concrete needs to be dug up from under the mini-periwinkles, but it's coming along and looks a whole lot better than the poorly done concrete that was there before. My dad suggests we put granite dust between the bricks as ants don't like that.
Next would be repainting the stairs... or maybe removing all the paint? Then replacing the rails... so much to do! But this at least is a start.
