To my fanfic writing/reading friends--opinions wanted!!

Okay, here's the scoop!

I've got two stories, one I've been working on for a while called Resolutions Redux, and another that I did for NaNoWriMo last November entitled, Brainstorm. They both center around the character of Brains, who is International Rescue's genius-nerd in residence. The first begins at New Year's, and concerns Brains's attempts to become a "chick magnet". The second tells the tale of Brains's background, mostly taken from the authorized materials, and with a twist of my own. It happens in the early autumn, before Thanksgiving.

I've been toying with the idea of linking the two and making Brainstorm a prequel of sorts to Resolutions Redux. And I'm at a point in the older story where I should make this choice. There wouldn't be too much tweaking involved with the older story; the only thing would be the addition of a cat (there is almost always a cat, lately ). The newer story is mostly finished. It would just need some polishing and a few scenes added here and there.

So, what do you think? Should I link to the two? Or should I keep them separate?

I think either way it could be an advantage; you could refer to things in RR and then expand upon them in BS, you see? But, at the same time, not linking them might allow a certain 'freedom'; less pressure to write them seperately. But the more I think about it, the more linkage could be a good idea.

Thanks, Ellie, for chiming in. The idea of linking the two just seems so natural since they're both about Brains and can inhabit a continuum of sorts: Resolutions>>> Brainstorm>>> Resolutions Redux.

I've had the idea of linking all my stories (like I linked my first five), with the exception of Turnabout (because, you know, girls?). But that would require some serious rewriting, I think (though I have made reference to Father's Day in Serendipity).

Right now, I'm trying to clean Brainstorm up and make it suitable for beta. I'll hold off on Resolutions Redux until then.
