Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Thunderbirds: Operation Crash-Dive

I love this one, mostly because the hero of the piece is my favorite Tracy brother, Gordon. The model work is exceptionally good, from the Fireflash to Thunderbird Four to the little farmhouse that Scott is forced to use for his mobile control. I particularly liked the way they had Thunderbird Four cut the second Fireflash's engines away. The tension is ratched up perfectly, though I would have liked there to be more emotion (and perhaps even an attempt at rescue) over the Fireflash that had gone down with all passengers and crew. I wrote a missing scene for this one, focusing on what happens to Gordon after he stops the jet from going down with Captain Hansen, Scott, and himself on board.

I love Operation Crash Dive for being so Gordon-centric; it's because of him that the happy conclusion is reached. He's given something else to do other than being the water-baby, so to speak and proves there's more to him. I particularly like the family-ending; his three older brothers teasing him. We needed more of that. :)

I agree, Ellie. The only thing that would have made it better is if John were in TB5 instead of Alan. Then John would have gotten some good screen time instead of a couple of odd lines while down on earth with the family. (Don't get me wrong; it was great to see him actually interacting with the family, and have proof that Jeff didn't really leave him up there to rot. But... John should have been the one handling the call. They could have brought him down for any number of other episodes.)

I know, it bites. I still don't understand why Gerry Anderson took such a dislike to John but still threw complete prats like Troy Tempest at us. Gerry was in charge and could have rounded out John's character to something he liked; he didn't give John a chance. He just took a ridiculously personal dislike to him and I'm afraid that while he may be a genius in many ways, I can't respect him for that.
