I have been back to the diabetes management people for some more training, and to see where I stand re: my goals. I was a bit worried about the hemoglobin A1C test (the one that tracks your blood glucose levels over a three month period) but.... I didn't need to be!!!

First of all, their scales said that I lost 13.8 lbs. My goal was 15, and they said I basically met that goal.

Second, I lost FOUR inches from my waist! Hubby is already complaining that I'm going to order new clothes!

Third, I took the kids with me and while I was getting poked and measured, the boys were bragging on me to the other members of the group. Made me feel all misty-eyed when I found out.

But fourth, and most important, my hemoglobin A1C went from a 6.3 (a little over the high end of normal) to a 5.3!!! Squarely in "non-diabetic" territory! I am so pumped!

This doesn't mean I get to stop what I'm doing and go back to my old habits. But it is a definite affirmation that what I'm doing is working. Now to find a way to add exercise to the mix (something that's not going to aggravate my feet) and I'll be well on my way.

It's such good news! Much better than I ever expected when the diagnosis was made back in March. I've still got a ways to go, but... I can manage it.
